Villas in Lucca

Villas in or near Lucca

Charming Lucca is known across Italy for its medieval city walls and historic centre – it’s fast becoming the destination of choice for travellers in searching of a break from popular Florence and Pisa.

Lucca has so much to see and do – we’d recommend the following:

–  Cycle the city walls
–  Wine / oil tasting at a local fattoria
–  Visit the gardens of historical villas
–  Walking tour of Lucca
–  Watch a Puccini opera recital / concert
–  Visit Café del Simo, Lucca’s most famous coffee shop with art nouveau interiors

The countryside which surrounds Lucca is some of Tuscany’s finest. A wonderful natural landscape filled with ancient vineyard, centuries old olive groves, elegant villas, charming farmhouses & remote hilltop villages.

Getting to Lucca

The walled city of Lucca is easily reached by both car and train from Pisa and Florence, perfect for those relying on public transportation to get around. The train station is right outside the southern walls, with an entrance below the balcony of San Colombano that brings you right behind Lucca’s cathedral and into the heart of the small walled town.

Getting around Lucca

Lucca and its city walls are best explored either on foot or by bike – you’ll find most of what you want to see and do in Lucca’s old centre which is closed to traffic. Bikes are available to rent at stations throughout the city for around €3 per hour.

Things To See and Do in Lucca

Lucca’s iconic city walls date back to the 16th century and surround the city, providing panoramic views and plenty of stunning photo opportunities.

A guided walking tour is one of the most popular ways to see the very best of Lucca and it’s stunning historic centre. Choose from half or full day tours and various licensed tour operators.

Puccini remains one of the giants of Opera and he was born right here in Lucca. Puccini’s music is celebrated year round at the Oratorio di San Giuseppe and Church of San Giovanni – see the full schedule here.

Built as summer residencies for rich city aristocrats, the historical villas of Lucca sit in the hills that surround the city – their beautiful gardens are full of colour and life.

Wine tours and Olive Oil tastings are the perfect way to fully immerse yourself in Lucca and Tuscan culture. The Colline lucchese wine trail is the land where the Doc wines ‘Colline Lucchese’ & Montecarlo are produced.
